Tourism in Beijing

Here are some tourist attractions:

Tian'anmen Square

Tian'anmen Square is one of the largest city squares in the world. It is situated in the heart of Beijing. Tian'anmen was built in 1417 and was the entrance gate to the Forbidden City. Now the square stretches 880 meters from north to south and 500 meters from east to west. The total area is 440,000 square meters. That's about the size of 60 soccer fields, spacious enough to accommodate half a million people.

The Palace museum

Beijing Palace museum is a royal palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties in China, which was formerly known as the Forbidden City. It is located in the center of the central axis of Beijing and it is the essence of Chinese ancient palace architecture.

The Great Wall

The majestic Great Wall touches the billows of the Bohai Sea in the east, and traverses the vast expanse of the Gobi desert in the west. It leaps over the boundless land of China like a soaring dragon. It was built with the blood and sweat of the laboring people of ancient China and is a symbol of the brilliance of China's ancient culture and a pride of the Chinese nation.

Sanlitun

Sanlitun is located in the middle and western part of Chaoyang District, Beijing. It is famous for Sanlitun Bar Street, which is one of the most prosperous entertainment streets in Beijing nightlife.

Yuanmingyuan

Yuanmingyuan is a large royal palace in the Qing Dynasty. The Qing emperors came here every summer to deal with political and military affairs, so it is also called the old Summer Palace. It is renowned for its grand geographical scale, outstanding building skills, rich cultural collections, and profound national cultural connotations. It is hailed as "a model for all garden art".

Summer Palace

The Summer Palace landscape, dominated mainly by Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake, covers an area of 3.08 square kilometers, three quarters of which is under water. Its 70,000 square meters of building space features a variety of palaces, gardens and other ancient-style architectural structures. Well known for its large and priceless collection of cultural relics, it was among the first group of historical and cultural heritage sites in China to be placed under special state protection.

Beijing Zoo

The Beijing Zoo lies west of Xizhimen and is in the western part of Beijing. Like many of Beijing's parks, areas of the zoo have the distinctive look of classical Chinese gardens. The grounds combine cultivated flower gardens with stretches of natural scenery, including dense groves of trees, stretches of grassland, a small stream, lotus pools and small hills dotted with pavilions and halls. The Beijing Zoo mainly exhibits wild and rare animals of China, including the Giant Pandas, the Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey, Manchurian tigers, white-lipped deer, and so on.

Olympic Green

The Olympic Green, at the north end of the central axis of Beijing, houses a forest park and the Olympic Common Domain (OCD). The OCD, where the Bird's Nest, the Water Cube and the National Indoor Stadium are, is open to the public from Monday to Sunday.
